Davanagere Member of Parliament Dr. Prabha Mallikarjun has successfully resolved the visa issue of eight members of the Hakkipikki community from Karnataka who were stranded in the African nation of Chad.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, the MP said two people from Davanagere district, five from Shivamogga district, and one from Chikkamagaluru district were facing serious difficulties after their visas expired. They were under the threat of arrest and unable to return home safely.
Dr. Mallikarjun said she took immediate action after learning about their situation. She wrote to Union External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and also contacted the Indian Embassy in Chad, requesting urgent help for the affected individuals.
Following this intervention, officials from the Indian Embassy responded positively. They assured that the visas of all eight people would be renewed without imposing any penalty, providing major relief to the community members and their families.
The MP said the quick response helped prevent further hardship and ensured the safety of the stranded citizens. He added that the government remains committed to protecting Indians abroad and responding swiftly during emergencies.
Families of the Hakkipikki community members expressed relief and gratitude, saying the timely effort brought hope during a difficult and uncertain period for everyone involved.
