Lokayukta police caught an Anganwadi teacher and staff member accepting a bribe to release egg money at the Station Bazaar Anganwadi Center on Wednesday. The accused have been identified as Anganwadi teacher Heena and U.F.W.C. staff Pinkubai Gaikwad.
The action was taken following a complaint by Udayanagar resident Saubhagya Balabhim Rathod. A team led by Police Inspector-2 Rajashekar Baddesara, under the guidance of Lokayukta SP Siddharaju, raided the center and detained the accused. Judicial custody procedures are currently underway.
The incident involved egg money deposited at the center for three months, totaling Rs. 14,490. The accused allegedly demanded Rs. 4,830 for one month and Rs. 600 each for November and December, collecting Rs. 6,030 in bribe money. Lokayukta officials caught them red-handed during the transaction.
The Lokayukta’s swift action highlights its commitment to combating corruption in government welfare programs and ensuring that public funds reach the intended beneficiaries. Authorities have urged citizens to report any misuse of welfare funds and promised strict action against offenders.
This case has drawn attention to the need for accountability and transparency in the management of Anganwadi centers, which play a crucial role in child nutrition and development programs across the state.
