Blurb: Union ministers Pralhad Joshi and Ashwini Vaishnaw discussed a possible Bengaluru-Pune high-speed rail corridor, which could boost connectivity and development across Karnataka
New Delhi
Following the recent Union Budget announcement of seven high-speed rail corridors across India, the central government has indicated a positive response toward adding another corridor for Karnataka. Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi actively requested a high-speed rail link between Bengaluru and Pune, and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw responded positively to this proposal.
On Wednesday morning, Pralhad Joshi met Ashwini Vaishnaw to discuss the feasibility of constructing the Bengaluru-Pune corridor. Joshi highlighted the benefits of this corridor, emphasizing that it would significantly contribute to the overall development of Karnataka. He assured the Railway Minister that the new rail link would enhance economic growth, trade, and connectivity across several regions of the state.
The proposed corridor is expected to particularly benefit Central and North Karnataka. Districts such as Belagavi, Hubballi, Haveri, Davanagere, Chitradurga, and Tumakuru are likely to see faster travel options, improved accessibility, and overall regional development. In addition, the corridor would strengthen links between Pune and seven key districts in Karnataka, making it easier for passengers and businesses to move efficiently.
Minister Joshi emphasized that the project would not only reduce travel time but also create new opportunities for industrial, commercial, and social growth along the corridor. The Railway Minister reportedly responded positively to the request and assured that detailed planning and discussions would follow.
This initiative comes at a time when India is expanding its high-speed rail network, with multiple corridors already under consideration and development. If implemented, the Bengaluru-Pune high-speed rail project is expected to transform regional transportation, boost economic development, and enhance connectivity between major cities in the state. The central government’s positive response marks a key step forward for Karnataka’s infrastructure growth.
