Municipal officials in Surapura conducted raids across the city, including Rangampet, seizing illegally collected plastic from shops and issuing notices to traders violating the plastic ban.

Speaking on the occasion, Municipal Commissioner Basavaraj Tankedara stressed the environmental dangers of plastic. “Plastic is causing serious harm to soil, water, and human health. Even a small piece of plastic in soil can remain for years, spoiling its quality. Using plastic for hot food can also cause dangerous diseases like cancer,” he said. He urged citizens to completely stop using plastic and switch to cloth bags.

Commissioner Tankedara expressed concern that despite repeated awareness campaigns and a government ban on plastic, some traders continue to collect and use it illegally. He warned that while a warning has been issued this time, strict legal action will follow if plastic use or storage is found again.

The raids targeted shops in Rangampet, Mahatma Gandhi Circle, and Darbar Road, where plastic materials were seized and notices were served to shopkeepers.

Municipal staff Yallappa Nayaka, Guruswamy, Mainuddin, Durgappa, Hanamantharaya, and other workers actively participated in the operation. The exercise highlighted the administration’s commitment to enforcing the plastic ban and protecting the environment. Citizens were encouraged to cooperate and adopt eco-friendly alternatives to make the city cleaner and safer for everyone.

The action serves as a reminder that strict measures are being taken against plastic usage, and both traders and the public should follow the law for a healthier and sustainable future.
