Mona Singh Questions Age Bias, Celebrates Bold Career Choices

Actor Mona Singh says she has never worried about her on-screen age and finds it unfair that women in the film industry are often judged by an expiry date. She points out that male stars continue to play romantic roles even in their sixties, while women face limited opportunities.

Singh is currently enjoying a strong phase in her career with praised performances in shows like Kaala Paani, The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, Made in Heaven 2, and the Netflix series Kohrra 2. She has also appeared in films such as Munjya, Happy Patel, and Border 2.

Speaking about Kohrra 2, Singh said she enjoys taking risks and focusing on characters rather than age. She plays Dhanwant Kaur, a police officer leading a murder investigation while dealing with personal loss. She said confidence and self-belief have helped her make bold choices.

The actor rose to fame with the television show Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi in 2003 and later appeared in the blockbuster film 3 Idiots. Now 44, Singh says she feels settled and creatively satisfied, crediting OTT platforms for offering meaningful roles.

Singh said being part of Kohrra 2 is special as she admires creator Sudip Sharma’s work. The second season, set in Punjab, pairs her with Barun Sobti’s character in a new case. The series streams on Netflix from February 11. She believes honest storytelling and strong roles matter more than age, and hopes the industry changes its outlook toward women performers across generations and languages worldwide.
