Dr Shanmukhayya A. Totad, a native of Mainahalli village in Koppal taluk, has been honoured with the prestigious Reality Book of World Records award in recognition of his outstanding and sustained contributions across multiple fields over a period of 38 years. The honour was conferred during a grand programme organised as part of the 77th Republic Day celebrations at the Lalithakala Auditorium, Yeshwanthpur, Bengaluru.
The award ceremony was jointly organised by Kannada Kahale Ragarangini, Mysuru, and PRK Samskruthika Vedike, Karnataka. Dr Shanmukhayya was recognised for his remarkable service and achievements in literature, theatre, television, cinema, legal practice and social service. The organisers said his multi-dimensional contribution to society over nearly four decades made him a deserving recipient of the international-level recognition.
The award was formally presented by Pushpa R., Coordinator of the Reality Book of World Records, New Delhi, in the presence of distinguished guests and cultural dignitaries. Speakers at the event highlighted that Dr Shanmukhayya’s journey reflects dedication, creativity and social commitment, making him an inspiration for the younger generation. They noted that his work has left a lasting impact not only in cultural and literary circles but also in the field of social service and law.
The programme was presided over by Anandkumar, State President of Kannadasiri, who, in his address, praised Dr Shanmukhayya’s versatility and consistent efforts in promoting Kannada language, culture and social values. He said individuals like Dr Shanmukhayya serve as cultural ambassadors who bridge tradition with contemporary expression.
The ceremonial lighting of the lamp was performed by Bollappa Guruji of Mysuru and Dr Kadayya Swamiji of Rayabag, adding spiritual significance to the occasion. Senior advocate of the High Court, Bengaluru, M. Muniyappa, and Dr Krishna were present as chief guests and addressed the gathering, lauding the awardee’s contributions and commitment to public service.
The event was smoothly compered by Dr Venkatesh R. Choutayi, who provided a detailed overview of Dr Shanmukhayya’s achievements and professional journey. Cultural performances and patriotic presentations marked the Republic Day celebrations, creating an atmosphere of pride and cultural richness.
