Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday underscored the state’s rapid economic transformation, expanding global engagement and strong commitment to constitutional values while leading Assam’s 77th Republic Day celebrations.

The event was held at the Khanikar Parade Ground in Dibrugarh, drawing government officials, security personnel, students and citizens from across the region.

Addressing the gathering, Sarma highlighted Assam’s accelerating economic momentum, citing data from the Reserve Bank of India to claim that the state’s growth rate has surpassed the national average. He said Assam’s Gross Domestic Product is currently expanding at an annual rate of 13 to 15% and is projected to reach Rs 10 lakh crore by 2027. According to the Chief Minister, this trajectory places Assam among the fastest-growing states in the country.

Sarma described Assam’s first-ever participation at the World Economic Forum as a historic milestone, symbolising the state’s shift from being a historically underdeveloped region to a globally connected and investment-ready destination. He said the engagement reflected rising confidence among national and international investors in Assam’s long-term economic potential.

Reviewing achievements over the past five years, the Chief Minister said Assam has recorded notable progress across multiple sectors, including employment generation, healthcare delivery, cultural promotion and peace-building initiatives. He stressed that sustained development has gone hand in hand with efforts to ensure stability and social harmony in the state. Highlighting Assam’s cultural resurgence, Sarma noted that traditional dance forms such as Bihu, Jhumoir and Bagurumba have gained international recognition. He also pointed out that the Assamese language has been accorded classical language status, calling it a moment of pride for the state’s people and a recognition of its rich literary and cultural heritage.
