Like Mumbai, our victory in GBA elections is certain: BJP

The BJP is having high expectations in the forthcoming GBA elections and hopes to achieve a landslide victory

BENGALURU

Buoyed by the party’s strong performance in recent local body elections in Maharashtra, senior BJP leaders on Friday exuded confidence of a decisive victory in the upcoming elections to the five municipal corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka said the people of Bengaluru, like those of Mumbai, would bless the BJP with an emphatic mandate, marking the beginning of the Congress party’s decline in Karnataka.

Referring to the BJP–Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) alliance’s success in Maharashtra, Ashoka said the party’s victories in Pune, Nagpur and other major urban local bodies, including the prestigious Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), reflected public endorsement of BJP’s development-oriented politics. “The people have once again recognised the BJP’s commitment to governance and growth. A similar verdict awaits the Congress in Karnataka during the GBA elections,” he asserted.

Former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai echoed these sentiments, stating that the results in Maharashtra’s urban local bodies demonstrated the electorate’s trust in the BJP-led alliance. Congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president J.P. Nadda, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Bommai said their leadership had played a crucial role in securing the unprecedented victory.

Bommai expressed confidence that the BJP–JD(S) alliance would replicate this success in Bengaluru. “The upcoming GBA elections will mark the beginning of the end for the Congress in the state. Urban voters are increasingly favouring development, transparency and decisive leadership, which the BJP represents,” he said.

BJP leaders also pointed to issues such as civic infrastructure, governance reforms and fiscal discipline as key factors that would influence voters in Bengaluru’s municipal elections. According to them, the party’s performance in other metropolitan regions has strengthened cadre morale and boosted confidence at the grassroots level ahead of the polls.

Former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis following the BJP and its allies’ strong showing in the Maharashtra local body elections. He said the victory was a result of people appreciating the pro-people initiatives of the NDA government at the Centre and the BJP-led government in Maharashtra. Yediyurappa thanked educated voters, party workers and leaders for their efforts and congratulated the winning candidates.
