Spirit of Service on Campus: 850 Donate Blood at Kristu Jayanti University Camp

BENGALURU

Jayantian Extension Services (JES) of Kristu Jayanti University organized a large-scale blood donation camp on campus, witnessing an overwhelming response from students and staff, with around 850 donors contributing blood voluntarily.

The camp aimed to promote voluntary blood donation, social responsibility, and humanitarian values within the university community. It was conducted in collaboration with leading healthcare institutions, including the Indian Red Cross Society, Jayadeva Hospital, Baptist Hospital, St. Martha’s Hospital, NIMHANS, and St. John’s Hospital.

Several university extension units actively supported the initiative, including the National Service Scheme (NSS), Youth Red Cross (YRC), National Cadet Corps (NCC), Centre for Social Activities (CSA), Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), Karnataka Civil Defence Corps, and the Centre for Community Education. Student volunteers played a pivotal role in coordinating the camp, managing crowds, assisting donors, and ensuring post-donation care.

A team of trained doctors and phlebotomists conducted pre-donation health screenings and haemoglobin tests to ensure donor safety. Post-donation, participants were provided with refreshments such as juice, biscuits, and fruits and were advised to rest and hydrate adequately.

Vital blood groups including O-positive, A-positive, and B-positive were collected, helping replenish emergency transfusion stocks and promoting awareness about regular blood donation.

Keziah Eldhose Kottapuram, a law student, praised the well-organized event and the volunteers’ and medical staff’s supportive approach, noting that donors were carefully monitored throughout the process.

All donors received certificates as a token of appreciation. The camp reaffirmed Kristu Jayanti University’s commitment to public health and community service, highlighting that each act of voluntary blood donation is a life-saving gift of hope.
