BENGALURU
The Indian Army stands as a role model for the younger generation, instilling the spirit of putting national interest above personal gains, Governor Thawarchand Gehlot said during the 78th Army Day celebrations at the War Memorial, MEG Centre, Bengaluru.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor emphasised that values such as discipline, punctuality, leadership, and teamwork are essential for today’s youth, and the Army exemplifies these qualities in action. Highlighting the guiding philosophy of the Indian Army, he said the motto “Seva Parmo Dharma” forms the cornerstone of every soldier’s life, reflecting discipline, loyalty, a strong sense of duty, and leadership.
In a rapidly evolving global and technological environment, the Governor noted, the Army continuously strengthens itself through modern technology, cyber capabilities, space cooperation, and advanced training to tackle increasingly complex security challenges. He commended the creativity and dedication of officers and personnel, noting that such initiatives have led to significant advancements in defence equipment, bolstering the strength and confidence of the armed forces.
Paying tribute to brave soldiers who have made the supreme sacrifice for India’s security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, the Governor said, “Our soldiers have sacrificed their today for our tomorrow.” He recalled that Army Day commemorates the historic occasion in 1949 when the first Indian Commander-in-Chief assumed office, marking India’s complete military sovereignty. Since then, the Army has defended the nation’s borders, aided during disasters and crises, participated in peacekeeping missions, and built a legacy of valour, courage, and selfless service.
Major General VT Mathew, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding, Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area, Brigadier Ajay Singh Thakur, and officers and personnel of the armed forces were present at the event.
The Governor also acknowledged the immense contributions of women in the armed forces, stating that they have faced the toughest hardships with dignity, patience, and indomitable courage. “The nation is indebted to our soldiers, ex-servicemen, brave women, and their families for their sacrifice, dedication, courage, and unwavering faith in the nation,” he said, extending his heartfelt gratitude and salute.
