City invites citizens for Walkaluru footpath walk

The initiative aims to raise awareness of pedestrian movement and assess footpaths, identifying areas needing repair or improvement

Bengaluru
The Bengaluru North City Corporation has invited citizens to take part in the ninth Footpath Walk under its “Walkaluru” project, aimed at promoting pedestrian safety and better walkable streets. The walk will be held in the Kammanahalli area of the Sarvajnanagar Division and will cover a distance of 5.2 kilometres.

The footpath walk is scheduled for Saturday, January 10, and will begin at 7.30 am from Joyalukkas on Kammanahalli Main Road. Officials said the initiative is designed to raise awareness about smooth pedestrian movement and to assess the condition of footpaths directly on the ground. The walk will help identify areas that need repair, redesign, or better facilities for walkers.

According to the corporation, similar footpath walks have already been conducted across several parts of Bengaluru North. These include five kilometres in Banaswadi, seven kilometres in Thanisandra, ten kilometres in Yelahanka, and seven kilometres in R.T. Nagar and Hebbal areas. In addition, a special pedestrian walk was organised on the first day of the New Year from J.C. Nagar to Mekhri Circle.

With the upcoming walk, a total of 29 kilometres of pedestrian walk audits have been completed within the Bengaluru North City Corporation limits. Officials said public participation is a key part of the Walkaluru project, as citizen feedback helps improve urban planning and road safety.

Residents are encouraged to walk with their neighbours and engage with officials during the event. The route will pass through Mariyappa Circle, CMR Road, Banaswadi Club, Empire Signal, and Hennur Road before ending back at Joyalukkas. The corporation said collective efforts can help build safer and more accessible pedestrian spaces for all.
