New Delhi

India will host a two day National Textiles Ministers’ Conference 2026 in Guwahati with the aim of strengthening the country’s textile sector and positioning India as a global manufacturing hub. The event will be organised by the Ministry of Textiles in collaboration with the Government of Assam and will begin on January 8 (today).

The conference will bring together Textile Ministers and senior officials from states and Union Territories to discuss policies, investments, sustainability, exports, infrastructure development and new technologies. It will be held under the theme “India’s Textiles: Weaving Growth, Heritage and Innovation”.

The initiative supports the government’s vision of making India a leading global textile centre by 2030. The focus will be on increasing exports, generating jobs and ensuring inclusive growth while balancing development with cultural heritage.

The inaugural session will be attended by Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita, along with other senior leaders.

Key sessions will cover infrastructure and investment, expanding textile exports, raw materials and fibres, technical textiles, new age fibres and the promotion of handlooms and handicrafts. Special attention will be given to PM MITRA Parks, sustainability goals, environmental compliance and innovation across the value chain.

Ministers and officials are expected to share best practices, regional challenges and policy ideas to strengthen textile clusters across districts. The conference aims to improve Centre and State coordination and create a clear roadmap for a competitive, sustainable and people focused textile industry, helping India secure a place in global markets while supporting traditional artisans.
