No high school teachers for voter list mapping, HM Ramesh Gowda urges

BENGALURU

Former MLC and JD(S) city unit president H.M. Ramesh Gowda has urged the state government to refrain from deputing high school teachers for voter list mapping work and instead assign the task to officials from other departments, citing the academic responsibilities of teachers and the proximity of board examinations.

Ramesh Gowda met Rashmi Mahesh, Principal Secretary to the Government in the School Education Department, and Vikas Kishore Suralkar, Commissioner of the School Education Department, and submitted separate representations on the issue. He stressed that teachers should be allowed to focus exclusively on preparing students for the SSLC examinations scheduled in the current academic year.

In his submission, he also requested that students be permitted to appear for the SSLC examinations in their respective schools without being compelled to produce documents related to renewal of accreditation. He further sought clarity to ensure that all students are allowed to write the examinations in the same school where they are currently enrolled.

Pointing out that the voter list mapping exercise involves linking the 2025 electoral rolls with the 2002 voter list, Ramesh Gowda said assigning this responsibility to high school teachers would adversely affect academic activities at a crucial time. He argued that officials from other government departments should be entrusted with the task instead.

The former MLC requested the senior officials to issue appropriate directions in this regard. According to him, both officials responded positively and assured that necessary action would be taken at the earliest, adding that the concerned authorities would be informed accordingly.
