Fresh Russian shelling hit eastern Ukraine overnight as diplomatic talks continued between United States and Ukrainian leaders.
Ukrainian officials said on Monday that Russian forces carried out overnight attacks on Kyiv-controlled areas of the Donetsk region, killing one civilian and injuring five others. The strikes hit several districts across eastern Ukraine despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the war.
According to the Donetsk Regional State Administration, Russian troops launched seven shelling attacks on settlements in the region. In the Pokrovsk district, five homes were destroyed in the Shakhivska community, including three houses in Kucherev Yar and two in Gruzky.
In the Kramatorsk district, one person was injured in Lyman. In the Starodubivka community of Mykolaiv, one house was destroyed and nine others were damaged. Authorities said damage was also reported in nearby residential areas.
The worst impact was seen in Sloviansk, where one civilian was killed and four others were injured. Two private houses were completely destroyed, while forty-two other homes and four vehicles suffered damage. In the Bakhmut district, at least two houses were damaged in Riznykivka village of the Siversk community.
Officials said 108 civilians were evacuated from frontline areas during the day, including eighteen children, as fighting continued near populated zones.
The attacks came as international focus remained on peace talks in the United States. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met US President Donald Trump at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Sunday. The leaders discussed a proposed twenty-point peace plan, security guarantees, and possible steps to end the conflict.
Before meeting Zelenskyy, Trump also spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling the conversation productive. Trump later told reporters he has set no deadline for a peace deal, saying his only goal is to stop the war.
Trump added that discussions with Ukraine, Russia, and European leaders were making progress. He said the talks were bringing the sides closer to ending what he described as one of Europe’s deadliest conflicts since World War Two.
