Karwar

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that establishing a super-specialty hospital in Karwar is one of the government’s foremost commitments, fulfilling a long-pending demand of the people of the region. Speaking at the Karavali Utsav held on Sunday night at the Rabindranath Tagore Beach in Karwar, he assured residents that the government stands firmly with them in improving healthcare facilities.

He said MLA Satish Sail had strongly emphasized that people from Karwar should not be forced to travel to Goa, Udupi, or Mangaluru for advanced medical treatment, and highlighted the urgent need for a world-class hospital locally. Responding to this, Shivakumar affirmed that the government will ensure this promise is met.

Expressing gratitude to the people of Uttara Kannada district, he noted that the support of five MLAs from the district has strengthened the government, enabling it to implement five guarantee schemes successfully. He also announced plans for a dedicated tourism policy for the region to boost employment, prevent youth migration, and create jobs at people’s doorsteps. A public meeting is scheduled to be held in Mangaluru on January 10 in this regard.

Praising the natural beauty and cultural richness of the coastal belt, Shivakumar described the Western Ghats, beaches, traditions, language, and heritage as the pride of the region. He also appreciated MLA Satish Sail for reviving the Karavali Utsav after seven years and providing opportunities for local artists and talents. Emphasizing action over criticism, he said critics may speak, but meaningful work leaves a lasting impact. He urged people to continue strengthening the government in the future by electing more representatives from the region.
