Newborn with Protruding Intestines Rushed in Zero Traffic for Treatment

A critically ill newborn was rushed from Koppal to Hubballi in zero traffic for urgent life-saving surgery

Koppal
In a remarkable display of coordination and urgency, a newborn baby boy born just 10 hours earlier was rushed from Koppal district to Hubballi for emergency treatment after doctors found that his intestines had protruded outside the body, a rare and life-threatening condition requiring immediate surgical intervention.

The baby was born at the Kuknoor Government Hospital to Mallappa and Vijayalakshmi, residents of Guttur village in Kuknoor taluk. Soon after birth, doctors noticed that the newborn was suffering from a severe congenital condition in which the intestines were outside the abdominal cavity, putting the infant’s life at serious risk.

Given the critical nature of the condition and the lack of advanced neonatal surgical facilities locally, doctors decided that the baby required immediate specialised care. Arrangements were swiftly made to shift both the mother and the newborn to KIMS Hubballi, located approximately 110 kilometres away.

To save precious time, a zero-traffic corridor was created for the ambulance convoy. In an extraordinary effort, five ambulances were deployed to ensure uninterrupted medical support during the long journey. The Karnataka Police played a crucial role by clearing traffic along the entire route, enabling the ambulances to travel without delay.

Sources said the baby, born barely 10 hours earlier, was battling for life throughout the journey. Medical staff continuously monitored the infant while oxygen support and emergency care were provided inside the ambulance. The mother, who had undergone delivery only hours earlier, was also transported alongside under medical supervision. The seamless coordination between doctors, ambulance services, and the police department ensured that the newborn reached Hubballi in the shortest possible time.
