Liquor shops will be open before any restaurants start functioning, police must be extra careful to avoid untoward incidents

In view of the New Year celebrations, the City Police Commissioner has ordered that special occasional excise licensees (CL-5) be allowed to trade and consume alcohol from 6 am to 1 am on December 31, applicable to city.
CL-5 licensees were allowed to trade in liquor only from 10.30 am to 12 midnight on normal days. However, on December 31, for the New Year celebrations, they have been allowed to trade in liquor from 6 am to 1 am.
A CL-5 is a temporary 24 hour liquor license that allows the consumption of alcohol on special occasions. This license primarily allows the sale or supply of alcohol to private parties, functions held on specific days. Holders of this license are usually only allowed to sell alcohol on one day during special occasions, such as New Year’s.
CL-5 licensees must also purchase and sell liquor as per Excise Department rules. Selling or consuming liquor at special occasions without a CL-5 license is a crime under the law.
Preparations for the New Year in Bengaluru: In view of the celebrations to be held in the capital, the police have made all kinds of preparations. At the same time, they have also launched a campaign to celebrate responsibly.
Appropriate preparations are being made as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incidents during the celebrations. Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, who has started a campaign to celebrate the New Year responsibly online, has taken steps to curb drug parties and rave parties.
The police department, which has started a campaign on social media to celebrate responsibility, has given some instructions to the people. It has also launched a campaign on passenger safety and is sharing information about emergency technology in Uber and Ola taxis.
City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, who recently held a meeting with the heads of Ola and Uber, had received information about security and other issues.
