Ramanagara
Ramanagara witnessed a disturbing incident when unidentified miscreants allegedly set fire to a stock of harvested ragi near Jayapura Gate, triggering concern among farmers and local residents. The incident occurred during the late evening hours, when the ragi, stored in an open area after harvesting, suddenly caught fire.
According to local sources, the ragi stock belonged to a farmer from the surrounding area who had temporarily stored the produce near Jayapura Gate before transporting it for further processing and sale. Flames were noticed by passersby, who immediately alerted nearby residents and the fire services. By the time efforts were made to control the blaze, a significant portion of the ragi had already been reduced to ashes.
Fire and emergency services rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby fields and properties. No injuries were reported in the incident, but the financial loss to the farmer is said to be substantial. Preliminary estimates suggest that several quintals of ragi were destroyed, dealing a severe blow to the farmer’s income.
Local residents suspect foul play, as the fire is believed to have been deliberately set. They pointed out that there was no apparent electrical source or natural cause that could have triggered the blaze. Farmers in the area expressed fear and anger over repeated incidents of crop damage and demanded strict action against those responsible.
Following the incident, police personnel visited the spot and conducted an inspection. A case has reportedly been registered, and an investigation is underway to identify the culprits. Officials stated that they are examining CCTV footage from nearby establishments and questioning locals to gather clues.
Farmers’ associations have urged the authorities to step up night patrolling in agricultural zones and areas where harvested crops are temporarily stored. They also demanded compensation for the affected farmer, stating that such acts not only cause financial loss but also create insecurity among the farming community.
