The Indian women’s cricket team continued its impressive run ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, defeating Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the second T20 International at Visakhapatnam on Monday night. With this comprehensive victory, India took a 2–0 lead in the five-match series, underlining their strong preparations and growing confidence in the shortest format of the game.

Chasing a modest target of 129 runs, India reached the finish line comfortably in just 11.5 overs, showcasing aggressive intent and clinical execution. Opening batter Shafali Verma was the star of the run chase, smashing an unbeaten 69 off just 34 deliveries. Her innings was studded with powerful strokes and fearless shot-making, leaving the Sri Lankan bowlers with little room to recover. Shafali’s knock not only sealed the match decisively but also reaffirmed her role as one of India’s most destructive batters in T20 cricket.

For Sri Lanka, Kawya Kavindi, Malki Madara, and Kavisha Dilhari picked up a wicket each, but their efforts were insufficient to halt India’s rapid scoring rate.

Earlier, India Women won the toss and opted to bowl, a decision that paid dividends as the bowlers kept Sri Lanka under consistent pressure. Batting first, Sri Lanka managed 128 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. Harshitha Samarawickrama top-scored for the visitors with 33 runs, anchoring the innings amid regular wickets. For India, young bowlers Vaishnavi Sharma and N. Shree Charani impressed by claiming two wickets each, maintaining tight lines and exploiting the conditions effectively.

Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, India is using the five-match series against Sri Lanka Women as a crucial part of their build-up to the Women’s T20 World Cup. The convincing nature of the victory highlights India’s balance across departments and the depth in their squad.
