Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma has reached a career milestone by becoming the world’s number one ranked T20I bowler for the first time. Her disciplined spell of 1/20 in four overs against Sri Lanka in Vizag helped India secure an eight-wicket win and earned her five rating points, pushing her just one point ahead of Australia’s Annabel Sutherland, who had held the top spot since August.
This achievement highlights Deepti’s consistency and impact in India’s bowling attack. At 28, she now leads the global rankings, giving India a major boost in the ongoing series.
Meanwhile, South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt reclaimed the number one position in ODI batting, overtaking India’s Smriti Mandhana. Wolvaardt’s back-to-back centuries against Ireland sealed a 3-0 series win for the Proteas and lifted her to a career-high rating. Mandhana now sits second in the ODI batting chart.
Other Indian players also made notable gains. Arundhati Reddy climbed five places to 36th among T20I bowlers, while Jemimah Rodrigues rose five spots to ninth in T20I batting after her unbeaten half-century against Sri Lanka earned her Player of the Match. She joins Mandhana (third) and Shafali Verma (10th) in the top 10.
South Africa’s Sune Luus improved in both batting and all-rounder rankings, while Ireland saw progress from Arlene Kelly, Gaby Lewis, and Amy Hunter, who all moved up in the ODI lists.
Deepti’s rise marks a proud moment for Indian cricket, as she leads the charge in global rankings.
