New Delhi
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a major pay hike for domestic women cricketers, increasing match fees from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000 per day. This decision comes in the wake of India’s historic triumph at the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup, where Harmanpreet Kaur led the team to their maiden global title after defeating South Africa in a thrilling final.
The revised structure benefits not only the playing XI but also reserve players, who will now earn Rs 25,000 per day, up from Rs 10,000. This move provides greater financial security and recognition for the wider squad, marking a significant step forward for women’s cricket in India.
The pay boost reflects the growing stature of women’s cricket, which has seen transformative changes in recent years. Under Jay Shah’s tenure as BCCI secretary from 2019 to 2024, the board introduced bold reforms, including pay equality between male and female cricketers, grassroots investment, and the launch of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The WPL has given Indian and international players a competitive platform, wider audience reach, and financial stability.
The latest hike underscores BCCI’s commitment to supporting women cricketers and building on the momentum of India’s World Cup success. With improved earnings and professional opportunities, Indian women cricketers continue to inspire millions of young girls to take up the sport, ensuring a brighter future for women’s cricket in the country.
