Parents donate organs of son killed in road accident

Mandya
In a deeply moving incident that has drawn praise from across the region, the parents of a young man who died in a road accident chose to donate his organs, giving new life to several others. The incident occurred in Belagola village of Srirangapatna, where the family’s humane decision has been widely lauded as an inspiring example of compassion amid tragedy.

The deceased youth, identified as Yashwant (21), was a resident of Belagola village in the Sakkare Nadu region of Mandya district. On December 13, Yashwant sustained severe injuries in a horrific road accident involving two motorcycles near Manti on the KRS Road. The collision left him critically injured, prompting immediate medical attention.

Following the accident, Yashwant was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors fought to save his life. Despite continuous treatment and intensive care, medical experts later informed the family that Yashwant had suffered complete brain failure. After thorough evaluation, doctors declared him brain-dead, leaving the family devastated by the sudden and irreversible loss.

In the midst of grief, Yashwant’s parents made an extraordinary and courageous decision—to donate his organs so that others might live. With consent from the family and coordination by hospital authorities, the organ donation process was initiated in accordance with medical and legal protocols. Doctors confirmed that Yashwant’s organs could save or significantly improve the lives of multiple patients awaiting transplants.

The decision has been widely appreciated by doctors, social organisations, and members of the public, who described it as an act of supreme humanity. Medical professionals noted that such awareness and willingness toward organ donation remain limited, making the family’s choice even more significant. Even in their darkest moment, the family chose to think of others. This is true service to society, a senior doctor said.
