Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao instructed the officials to immediately invite tenders for the redevelopment of Russell Market in Shivajinagar.
Speaking while visiting various places within the Shivajinagar assembly constituency of the Central Urban Corporation and inspecting them, he said that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) work related to the redevelopment of Russell Market has already been completed and he directed that it be implemented quickly.
Russell Market is a heritage building and should be made a living, permanent and people-friendly market for Bengaluru by giving it a modern touch. In this regard, he instructed the officials to make temporary arrangements elsewhere so that the traders in the market do not face any inconvenience and take steps to start the work.
During the market development work, adequate drainage system should be provided and appropriate arrangements should be made to prevent water from stagnating in the parking areas. He instructed to install a comprehensive waste segregation and composting system to ensure that the market is always clean.
All works including fire safety system, toilet facilities, installation of granite in public places, clock tower design should be carried out with quality. He also instructed to prepare a comprehensive plan to develop the areas around Russell Market.
MLA Rizwan Harshad said that Russell Market in Shivajinagar is a very ancient building and redevelopment work is being carried out without any harm to it. He also assured that all kinds of cooperation will be provided so that no problems arise locally.
In the redesigned Russell Market, ease of movement, visual observation and access facilities will be given high priority. He said that it will be reconstructed into a beautiful place for the convenience of both vendors and customers.
Additional Development Commissioner Daljit Kumar, Joint Commissioner Hemant Sharan, Chief Engineer Vijay Kumar Haridas, Executive Engineer and other concerned officials were present on this occasion.
