In an effort to create public awareness about various national health programmes, a street play was organised at the KSRTC bus stand in Chikkaballapur city. The awareness initiative was jointly undertaken by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, and the District Health and Family Welfare Department, Chikkaballapur.
The street play programme was presented by the Neha Grameena Abhivruddhi, Cultural and Social Organisation, which used folk theatre and engaging performances to communicate key messages related to public health. The initiative aimed to educate the general public, commuters, and daily wage workers about the importance of national health schemes, preventive healthcare, and the services available through government health programmes.
Through the street play, information was disseminated on topics such as maternal and child health, immunisation, sanitation, nutrition, and disease prevention. The use of simple language, relatable characters, and interactive performances helped attract a large crowd and ensured that the health messages reached people from different sections of society effectively.
District Health Education Officer G. Harish, Taluk Health Officer Dr. Manjula, programme coordinator Deepa, and members of the performing artists’ team were present during the event. Health officials appreciated the efforts of the organisation and highlighted the importance of alternative communication methods like street plays in spreading awareness, especially among the public in busy and crowded locations.
Officials stated that such programmes play a crucial role in bridging the information gap and encouraging people to make use of government health services. The district health department plans to continue similar awareness activities across different parts of the district to strengthen public participation in national health initiatives and promote healthier communities.
