New Delhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the closing ceremony of the second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine in New Delhi on December 19, according to the Prime Minister’s Office. The three day summit is being held at Bharat Mandapam and highlights India’s growing leadership in building a science based and people centred traditional medicine system across the world.
The Prime Minister’s Office said Modi has always stressed the need to bring traditional medicine and Indian knowledge systems into the mainstream through research, standard rules, and cooperation. The summit reflects these efforts and shows India’s role in shaping future health systems.
During the programme, Modi will launch several major Ayush initiatives. These include the My Ayush Integrated Services Portal, a single digital platform for Ayush services. He will also unveil the Ayush Mark, which aims to become a quality standard for Ayush products and services.
The Prime Minister is also expected to release a WHO technical report on training in Yoga and a book titled “From Roots to Global Reach: 11 Years of Transformation in Ayush”. He will release a special postal stamp on Ashwagandha, highlighting India’s traditional medicinal heritage.
Modi will felicitate the winners of the Prime Minister’s Awards for Outstanding Contribution to the Promotion and Development of Yoga for the years 2021 to 2025. These awards recognise long term dedication to Yoga and its spread worldwide.
The Prime Minister will also visit the Traditional Medicine Discovery Space, an exhibition showing traditional medicine knowledge from India and other countries.
The summit, held from December 17 to 19, is organised by the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Ayush. It focuses on restoring balance through health, science, and well being, with discussions among international leaders, scientists, practitioners, and civil society representatives.
