Delhi CM pushes for electric bus fleet plan

Clean Transport

New Delhi

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced a plan to make the Delhi Transport Corporation fleet fully electric by next year, aiming to turn public transport completely emission free. She launched 100 new electric buses and said the move is part of long term efforts to control pollution in the capital.

The Chief Minister said the government is focused on practical and lasting solutions to improve air quality. Adding electric buses to the DTC fleet will help cut emissions and improve daily travel for passengers across the city.

Gupta also announced the launch of an interstate electric bus service from Dhaula Kuan in Delhi to Dharuhera in Haryana. She said the service, closed for many years, has now been restarted with modern buses offering better comfort and safety.

She said the new service will reduce pollution and make travel easier for people commuting between Delhi and the National Capital Region. Clean public transport, she added, is key to managing traffic and pollution together.

Earlier, the Chief Minister said Delhi recorded zero incidents of stubble burning during winter, calling it a major success of the pollution control policy. She said paddy was cultivated on nearly 7,000 acres in 2025, yet no stubble burning cases were reported.

Gupta said the achievement came through joint efforts of departments, strict monitoring, and cooperation from farmers. The government plans to strengthen these measures further in coming months across the city, officials said.
