SEATTLE
Nathan MacKinnon led the Colorado Avalanche to a 5-3 win over the Seattle Kraken, scoring twice and adding an assist to extend his NHL-leading goal total to 28 this season.
MacKinnon’s performance stretched his point streak to six games, helping the Avalanche secure their third straight victory and earn points in 24 of their last 25 contests. Colorado, with the league’s best record, continues to look like a dominant force.
Other Avalanche scorers included Artturi Lehkonen, Samuel Girard, and Brock Nelson. Goalie Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 34 shots to backstop the team.
Seattle’s offense came from Chandler Stephenson, Shane Wright, and Jordan Eberle, but the Kraken continue to struggle, losing nine of their last ten games. Philipp Grubauer made 33 saves in a losing effort.
The Kraken appeared to have momentum in the second period, scoring three goals to take a 3-2 lead heading into the third. MacKinnon tied the game early in the final period with a powerful one-timer from the right circle. Less than a minute after a missed Kraken penalty shot, Brock Nelson scored the go-ahead goal. MacKinnon sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the closing minute.
Lehkonen opened the scoring midway through the first period by deflecting a shot past Grubauer. Despite a valiant effort, the Kraken couldn’t overcome Colorado’s firepower down the stretch.
The Avalanche will host the Winnipeg Jets on Friday, while Seattle heads to Calgary on Thursday, hoping to snap their losing skid.
MacKinnon’s star power and Colorado’s consistent play continue to make the Avalanche one of the NHL’s most dangerous teams this season.
