Shiv Sena (UBT) Slams Maharashtra Government Over Missing Girls, Alleges Neglect of Women’s Safety

Shiv Sena UBT accused Maharashtra’s Mahayuti government of ignoring women’s safety amid rising missing girls cases statewide.

Mumbai
The Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) on Monday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Mahayuti government in Maharashtra, accusing it of prioritising political self-interest and self-congratulation while the state faces an alarming rise in cases of missing girls. The party alleged that governance has taken a back seat even as public safety, particularly the security of women and children, continues to deteriorate.

In a strongly worded editorial published in its mouthpiece Saamana, the Thackeray camp claimed that the state government is more focused on protecting traitors and serving a select group of political allies and cronies than addressing urgent social issues. According to the editorial, government machinery is being misused to safeguard political interests, while the safety of ordinary citizens, especially women and girls, has been pushed to the margins.

The editorial took particular aim at Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ recent announcement regarding the establishment of a grand Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Powai, Mumbai. The Thackeray camp described the move as a celebratory exercise that starkly contrasts with the grim reality unfolding in the state. It pointed out that Mumbai itself, where the proposed centre is to be set up, is witnessing a disturbing rise in cases of missing girls, raising serious questions about the government’s priorities.

Linking the issue to welfare initiatives, the Shiv Sena (UBT) questioned the effectiveness and intent behind schemes such as the ‘Ladki Bahin’ Yojana. While financial assistance under the scheme is being highlighted by the government, the party argued that monetary benefits cannot compensate for the lack of safety and security.
