Indian Investors Expand Reach To Global Markets

Mumbai

Investors from more than 145 cities across India are now participating in global markets, with 47 percent coming from tier 2 and tier 3 locations, a report by Vested Finance revealed on Monday.

The report highlighted a shift in Indian investor behaviour, showing that many are moving beyond single-stock bets to invest in US equities, index and thematic ETFs, private market opportunities, and global funds, including those domiciled in GIFT City. This indicates a more structured approach to portfolio building and growing comfort with global market participation.

“Global investing for Indians has moved from curiosity to conviction. Investors are increasingly thinking in terms of asset allocation, diversification, and long-term exposure, rather than one-off investments,” said Viram Shah, Founder and CEO of Vested Finance.

The report also noted a two-way investment trend, with Indian investors using international platforms to access overseas markets and also invest back into India, reflecting a growing global capital perspective.

According to the findings, 48 percent of global investors are under 35, and 38 percent start with less than $500. While 68 percent prefer investing in individual stocks, 24 percent choose ETFs, seven percent invest in cash, and one percent in global funds. On average, investors hold eight stocks, with popular choices including Nvidia, Tesla, Apple, Meta Platforms, Alphabet, and Microsoft.

The rise in global investing has been supported by better access to research, digital tools, and financial education, especially outside metro cities. About 38 percent of investors increase their global allocation within the first year, while 61 percent diversify across both stocks and ETFs.

The report underscores a growing sophistication among Indian investors, signalling that global investment is becoming an integral part of long-term wealth creation strategies nationwide.
