AIADMK Begins Early Preparations for Tamil Nadu Assembly Polls, Invites Applications From Aspirants

With Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approaching, AIADMK has begun early preparations by inviting applications from aspiring candidates statewide.

Chennai
With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections likely to be held in April next year, political activity across the state has gathered momentum, and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has initiated early steps to prepare for the crucial electoral contest. Signalling its intent to move swiftly into election mode, the party on Monday announced the commencement of the distribution and acceptance of application forms from aspirants seeking to contest the forthcoming Assembly elections under its banner.

The decision follows recent meetings of the AIADMK’s General Committee and Executive Committee, during which the leadership reviewed the political situation and discussed organisational preparedness. Tamil Nadu is expected to witness a fiercely contested election, with multiple political formations emerging as key players. The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the AIADMK-led alliance, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led combine, and actor Vijay’s newly launched Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) are all gearing up for what is being described as a multi-cornered fight.

At present, the AIADMK remains aligned with the BJP, and alliance dynamics are widely seen as a decisive factor in determining the electoral outcome. Political observers note that seat-sharing arrangements and coalition arithmetic will play a crucial role, especially given the presence of emerging political forces and shifting voter preferences.

Sources within the party indicate that the AIADMK leadership is keen on strengthening its alliance by exploring the possibility of bringing in other regional players, including the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK). There are also reports of indirect discussions aimed at broadening the opposition front to effectively counter the ruling DMK, although no formal announcements have been made so far. At the same time, there is considerable curiosity within political circles over how many seats the AIADMK may eventually allocate to its current ally, the BJP, if a formal seat-sharing agreement is finalised.
