Suryavanshi Smashes 171 with 14 Sixes, Breaks Two U-19 Asia Cup Records

Teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi shattered two major U-19 Asia Cup records effortlessly

NEW DELHI

Vaibhav Suryavanshi produced a breathtaking display of power-hitting as the 14-year-old Indian opener hammered 171 off just 95 balls against the UAE in the U-19 Asia Cup on Friday. His innings, packed with clean hitting and remarkable composure, featured 14 towering sixes, the most ever struck in a single innings in the history of the tournament.

Suryavanshi began aggressively, racing to his fifty in only 30 balls and reaching his century in 56. Once set, he unleashed an even more dominant assault on the UAE attack, storming past 150 in 84 deliveries before finally falling for 171. His knock not only powered India to a commanding total but also redefined the record books.

The teenager surpassed Afghanistan’s Darwish Rasooli, who had struck 10 sixes in an U-19 Asia Cup match in 2017, to claim the record for most sixes in an innings. He also overtook Rasooli’s aggregate of 22 sixes to script a new mark for the most sixes overall in the tournament, with his tally now standing at 26.

This blistering 171 is the second-highest score by an Indian in U-19 ODIs, behind Ambati Rayudu’s unbeaten 177 against England in 2002. Under the leadership of Mumbai and CSK opener Mhatre, India began their campaign in dominant fashion, though all eyes now shift to their high-voltage clash against Pakistan on Sunday—a contest widely viewed as a key preview ahead of next year’s U-19 World Cup.

Suryavanshi’s heroics have already ignited India’s campaign, marking him as one of the most exciting young talents to watch in world cricket.
