Avalahalli police have arrested five accused, including a thief who robbed a house and four others who ambushed him. Isairaj and his assailants Mounesh Rao, Darshan, Chandan and Sunil have been arrested. 447 grams of gold jewellery, cash and Rs 70 lakh worth of items have been seized from the accused, the police said.
On the night of November 22, Isairaj broke into a house in Mandur, stole 90 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 1.75 lakh in cash and fled. At around 8 pm, Mounesh Rao, Darshan, Chandan and Sunil, who were sitting near the Mandur crematorium and drinking alcohol, stopped Isairaj after catching their eye. They then robbed him of the stolen gold ornaments and jewellery.
When Isai Raj finally asked for money to cover his travel expenses to reach Tamil Nadu, the accused gave him three thousand rupees and sent it. However, the police said that the accused, who had drunk alcohol with the same money, committed thefts in two other houses around 10 pm.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family, the police arrested Isairaj when he was selling the stolen goods near Parvathi Nagar in Medahalli. When he narrated the incident, the other four accused were also found and arrested. Police said that 447 grams of diamonds and gold ornaments worth a total of Rs 70 lakh and Rs 28,000 in cash were seized from the accused.
