The DC has directed poultry and livestock feed units to procure maximum maize at MSP, with inspections and procurement centres planned accordingly.

Deputy Commissioner T. Venkatesh has instructed all animal and poultry feed manufacturers in the district to purchase the maximum possible quantity of maize directly from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). He delivered these directions while presiding over a preliminary meeting held at the DC office on Wednesday, focusing on ensuring adequate maize supply for poultry and livestock feed units.
During the meeting, the DC said that details regarding the annual production capacity of feed units and their maize storage capabilities must be compiled without delay. He further directed officials to facilitate the procurement of high-quality maize from farmers through the Karnataka State Cooperative Marketing Federation (KSCMF), ensuring transparency and fair pricing.
Venkatesh added that a decision on establishing procurement centres would be taken only after a joint team—comprising tahsildars, assistant agriculture directors, and assistant directors from the animal husbandry department—visits various feed units across taluks. These teams will assess storage facilities, verify requirements, and submit reports, following which suitable procurement points will be finalised.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. N. Kumar, Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department, noted that guidelines for purchasing maize grown during the current monsoon season have already been issued by KSCMF, and that all departments will strictly follow these procedures.
Additional DC B.T. Kumaraswamy, Joint Director of Agriculture B. Manjunath, Polyclinic Deputy Director Dr. C. Tippeswamy, officials from cooperative departments, representatives of feed production units, TAPCMS, and primary agricultural cooperative societies were present.
