Tourism Minister H.K. Patil announced that the Karnataka Tourism Infrastructure Corporation will take up the development of Udupi district’s Lighthouse Beach at an estimated cost of ₹5 crore. Responding to a question raised by BJP MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty during the Assembly Question Hour on Tuesday, the minister detailed ongoing and planned tourism infrastructure projects in the Kapu region.

Patil informed the House that the construction of a connecting bridge and an approach road at the endpoint of the Padubidri Nadighatta beach road in Kapu constituency has already been completed at a cost of ₹75 lakh. For the 2025–26 financial year, the state budget has allocated ₹86 crore for improving basic facilities at tourist destinations across Karnataka. Based on priority assessment, new works worth ₹14 crore will be taken up under this allocation, he added.

The minister also highlighted that the Karnataka Tourism Policy 2024–29 identifies several locations in Kapu taluk for development as major tourist destinations. These include Kapu Beach, Lighthouse Point, Padubidri End Point, the Blue Flag Beach, Kapu Marigudi Temple, Uchila Sri Mahalakshmi Temple, Udupi Kunjargiri Sri Durga Devi Temple, and the Muttu Rock islands.

Patil emphasized that the state government is committed to strengthening tourism infrastructure to attract more visitors and promote local economic development through enhanced connectivity and improved amenities at important coastal and cultural sites.
