Municipal Administration Minister Rahim Khan informed the Legislative Council that a total of ₹150.08 crore has been released since 2023 for road development works in the urban areas of Mandya, Hassan and Chamarajanagar districts under various schemes, out of which ₹142.32 crore has already been utilised.

Replying to a question raised by BJP MLC K. Vivekananda, the minister said that about 3.3 km of roads within the limits of Hassan City Corporation were severely damaged due to heavy rainfall. An estimate of ₹3.30 crore has been prepared for their repair. The restoration work is being taken up using available funds under the 15th Finance Commission grant, the State Finance Commission (SFC) grant and allocations from the local urban body.

Similarly, in Chamarajanagar City Municipal Council limits, repair work on 13 km of roads is underway at a cost of ₹2.77 crore. These funds too are drawn from the 15th Finance Commission, SFC grants and local body resources.

In Mandya City Municipal Council limits, repair of 9 km of roads is being carried out using ₹50 lakh available under local body funds, the minister added.

Rahim Khan emphasised that the government is prioritising urban road infrastructure across these districts to ensure better connectivity, smoother traffic movement and improved civic amenities. He noted that despite financial constraints, the government has allocated funds in a phased manner to address damages caused by heavy rains and long-pending road maintenance needs.

He assured the House that ongoing works would be completed at the earliest and that further funds would be provided based on requirements and proposals submitted by the respective urban local bodies.
