Actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) has renewed its push to conduct a major public rally in Erode on December 16, submitting a fresh application on Monday after the district police rejected its earlier request citing security and space constraints. The move underscores the party’s determination to proceed with one of its most significant campaign events ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
TVK’s State Executive Committee Chief Coordinator Sengottaiyan, accompanied by senior party administrators, met Erode Collector Kandhasamy at the Collectorate camp office in Sampath Nagar on Monday morning. The delegation formally submitted a renewed petition seeking permission for the rally. A parallel representation was also filed with the Erode District Superintendent of Police, signalling the party’s intention to follow due procedure despite the setback.
The rally was initially planned on a seven-acre private vacant land located near Pavalathampalayam on the Erode–Perundurai Road. However, a police team led by Superintendent of Police Sujatha inspected the venue and concluded that it lacked adequate space for crowd management. Officials also expressed concerns over potential safety risks, prompting the denial of permission.
Following the refusal, TVK leaders held urgent consultations with district-level executives to reassess venue options. During these discussions, an alternative site near Perundurai was identified as a more viable location. The party submitted a fresh request seeking police clearance for the new venue later in the day.
Sengottaiyan affirmed TVK’s commitment to adhering to all government regulations, stating, We will conduct the rally strictly in accordance with government rules and security guidelines once permission is granted.
