The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has extended the deadlines for submitting comments and counter-comments on its latest consultation paper reviewing interconnection regulations, the Ministry of Communications announced on Monday.
The consultation paper, released on November 10, initially set December 8 as the last date for comments and December 22 for counter-comments. Following multiple requests from industry bodies and stakeholders for more time to study the proposals, TRAI has now extended the deadline for written comments to December 15 and for counter-comments to December 29.
“The extension was granted in response to requests from industry associations and stakeholders seeking more time to prepare their submissions,” the ministry said. Stakeholders are invited to submit their inputs electronically to Sameer Gupta, Advisor (Networks, Spectrum and Licensing-I). The consultation aims to update interconnection regulations to match the evolving telecom technologies and market needs.
Meanwhile, TRAI has continued its crackdown on spam and fraud in the telecom sector. Over the past year, the regulator disconnected more than 21 lakh mobile numbers and blacklisted around one lakh entities based on citizen complaints. TRAI has urged people to continue reporting spam through the TRAI DND App to prevent misuse at the source, cautioning that simply blocking unwanted numbers on personal phones is not enough.
These steps reflect TRAI’s ongoing efforts to protect consumers while ensuring that India’s telecom sector keeps pace with technological and market developments.
