India’s National Career Service (NCS) portal has mobilised over 8.17 crore job vacancies for jobseekers, including women, SC/ST, and EWS categories, Minister for Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya informed Parliament on Monday.
As of November 20, more than 6.02 crore jobseekers and over 54.27 lakh employers have registered on the NCS portal since its inception. The portal serves as a one-stop platform for career-related services, offering job listings from both private and government sectors, online and offline job fair information, career counselling, vocational guidance, skill development courses, and training programmes.
Mandaviya also highlighted the government’s initiative to set up Model Career Centres (MCCs) in collaboration with states and institutions. To date, 407 MCCs have been approved to provide employment services across the country.
Citing the World Economic Forum’s ‘The Future of Jobs Report 2025,’ the minister noted that India’s unemployment rate stands at just 2 per cent, the lowest among G20 nations. Employment generation has kept pace with the country’s rapid economic growth, supported by enabling government schemes.
In the past year, partnerships with major organisations, including Amazon and Swiggy, have helped mobilise nearly five lakh job vacancies. Mandaviya also recalled that at the start of its third term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a Rs 2 lakh crore package across five flagship schemes to support employment, skilling, and opportunities for 4.1 crore youth.
A key component of this package is the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY), with an allocation of Rs 99,446 crore, targeting the creation of over 3.5 crore jobs in two years. Of these, 1.92 crore positions will benefit first-time entrants to the workforce, reinforcing the government’s focus on youth employment.
