Hyderabad Airport on alert after bomb threats to flights
Hyderabad
A fresh wave of bomb threat emails targeting three flights sent security agencies at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) into high alert. The threats, received via email by RGIA customer support, claimed explosives were aboard flights arriving from Kannur, Frankfurt, and London Heathrow. Airport authorities immediately activated standard emergency protocols, mobilising CISF personnel, police units, and bomb disposal squads. Despite the panic sparked by the messages, all three flights landed safely and were declared clear following extensive inspections.
According to airport officials, IndiGo flight 6E 7178 from Kannur landed without incident at 10:50 p.m. on Sunday. Shortly after midnight, Lufthansa flight LH 752 from Frankfurt touched down safely at 2 a.m. on Monday. British Airways flight BA 277 from Heathrow — the third aircraft mentioned in the threat — landed at 5:20 a.m. All flights were thoroughly checked by security personnel, and the threats were confirmed to be hoaxes.
Authorities have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the threatening email. The incident has intensified concerns after a similar series of threats was issued just a day earlier. On Saturday, December 6, four flights were targeted within a 12-hour span, prompting widespread security measures at RGIA.
In Saturday’s incidents, the hoax threats were emailed for Air India flight AI 2879 from Delhi, British Airways flight BA 277 from Heathrow, and Singapore Airlines flight SQ 518 from Singapore — all of which landed safely at Hyderabad after comprehensive security checks. However, Kuwait Airways flight KU 373 from Kuwait opted to return to its departure airport as a precaution since Kuwait was the closest landing point when the threat was detected.
