Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated more than 800 newly built houses for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) families under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Ahmedabad. The project reflects the Centre’s commitment to providing safe and permanent homes to the poor so they can live with dignity and security.
Sharing pictures of the event on social media, Amit Shah said that 861 modern houses were constructed in the Thaltej ward of Ahmedabad by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. He said these well-planned houses, equipped with all basic amenities, will give residents a strong and secure foundation for a better future.
The beneficiaries, mostly from poor and underprivileged backgrounds, expressed great happiness and relief at receiving their own homes. Many said moving into a permanent house was a dream they never thought would come true. One beneficiary, Nikhilesh Ben, said the new house has brought them respect in society and thanked the government for the support.
Another resident, Ranjeet, said his family has finally moved out of a slum and now enjoys a safe and clean living environment. He added that facilities like an Anganwadi centre, Ayushman Bhawan and a school for children are available nearby, making life more comfortable.
Shambhu Bhai, another beneficiary, said he earlier lived in unsafe conditions but now has a strong, well-equipped home. He praised the quality of construction and thanked the government for providing all necessary facilities.
Some families said they had waited nearly 25 years to own a house and were deeply grateful for finally receiving one. The inauguration brought visible joy and hope to hundreds of families who are now starting a new chapter of life with a secure roof over their heads.
