Tejashwi’s absence sparks questions in Assembly

The absence of Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav from the ongoing Winter Session of the Bihar Assembly has triggered strong reactions from the ruling NDA and several opposition lawmakers. His prolonged absence has become a political flashpoint, especially after reports surfaced claiming that he may currently be travelling in Europe.

JD(U) MLC Neeraj Kumar sharply criticised Tejashwi, saying the Opposition leader should publicly share full details of his trip. He argued that Tejashwi, who recently lost the Assembly election, left for a vacation soon after and is now reportedly abroad even though crucial Assembly proceedings are underway. Neeraj Kumar also referred to media reports alleging that a history-sheeter named Rameez may be accompanying Tejashwi. He demanded clarity on whether proper court permission was taken and asked Tejashwi to release related documents and photographs to the public.

JD(U) MLA Chetan Anand echoed similar views, stressing that the Leader of the Opposition holds an important constitutional position. He said the presence of key leaders — including the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers, and the Opposition leader — is vital during every session. Their absence, he added, weakens the legislative process and sets a poor example for democratic functioning.

AIMIM MLA Akhtarul Iman also criticised the situation, saying that Tejashwi’s absence sends a negative message at a time when the Opposition already has limited strength in the Assembly. He said personal matters may arise, but commitment to constitutional responsibility must remain a priority.

As political pressure grows, Bihar’s leaders now await Tejashwi Yadav’s response regarding his location and reasons for missing the session.
