MLA ready to resign if Chief Minister directs

Nagender said he will argue his disqualification case in the Supreme Court, expressed confidence in elections, and stated Telangana will progress strongly if Revanth Reddy remains Chief Minister for a decade

HYDERABAD
Former minister and Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender, who is among the 10 BRS legislators facing possible disqualification for shifting loyalties to the ruling Congress, said he is ready to resign if Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy asks him to do so. He said no such direction has been given yet but he would follow the Chief Minister’s instructions whenever required.

Nagender told reporters that the disqualification case is before the Supreme Court, and he will present his arguments there. He added that elections are not new to him, saying he has contested 11 times and is always confident of fighting and winning. He also said that Telangana will move forward strongly if Revanth Reddy continues as Chief Minister for another decade.

Recently, Nagender sought more time to reply to the disqualification notice issued by Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. The Speaker has already finished hearings for eight other MLAs accused of defecting from the BRS to the Congress. After hearing both sides, the Speaker has reserved his orders.

The BRS told the Speaker that the MLAs openly joined the Congress and even sat in the Treasury Benches. The accused MLAs denied this, saying they only met the Chief Minister to seek development funds for their constituencies. The BRS highlighted that Nagender even contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket and that MLA Kadiyam Srihari campaigned for his daughter, the Congress candidate in Warangal.

The Supreme Court earlier issued a contempt notice to the Speaker for delaying action on the petitions despite clear directions to decide within three months. The matter is expected to come up again after four weeks.
