Tamil superstar Rajinikanth paid an emotional homage to veteran producer AVM Saravanan, who passed away on Thursday at 86. Calling him a true gentleman with a pure heart, Rajinikanth said Saravanan stood by him during his most challenging phases.
After offering his final respects, the actor described Saravanan as someone who deeply loved cinema and often fondly recalled his father, “Appachi.” Rajinikanth shared the personal bond they nurtured over decades, noting that he acted in nine AVM films, all of which became major successes. He credited Saravanan as a key reason behind their impact.
Reflecting on their collaborations, he highlighted Murattu Kalai in the 1980s and Sivaji in the 2000s—both grand productions. Rajinikanth revealed that Saravanan had even discussed a new project with him in the 2020s, though it did not materialize. Deeply saddened, he extended his condolences to the family.
Saravanan’s passing a day after his birthday marks the end of an iconic era in Tamil cinema. As the driving force behind the prestigious AVM banner, he shaped generations of filmmaking and earned widespread admiration. His death cast a pall over the industry, with several production houses cancelling events in tribute. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin was among those who paid their respects.
