Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, has claimed that Congress’s real high command in Karnataka is KC Venugopal, not Mallikarjun Kharge.
Speaking about the recent meeting of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Venugopal in Bengaluru, Narayanaswamy said the state has been confused over Congress leadership, but now it is clear that Venugopal holds the power.
He criticized the Congress for ignoring state issues due to internal rivalries between the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. He said Venugopal is managing different groups within the party and deciding their survival, while the interests of farmers, Dalits, and North Karnataka are being neglected.
Narayanaswamy accused Congress leaders of forgetting the welfare of Dalits and the backward regions. He highlighted that 31 bills are already pending, and 22 new bills are being added, questioning whether this session is for passing legislation or serving party interests. He also criticized the government for considering Bengaluru-related bills in Belgaum and demanded a special session to address the concerns of North Karnataka.
He pointed out that leaders of North Karnataka have failed to develop the region despite holding Chief Ministerial positions, leaving areas like Kalyana Karnataka and Kittur Karnataka backward. Narayanaswamy said the Congress focuses more on retaining power than addressing regional inequalities and welfare issues.
He also stressed the need for the party to prioritize state development over internal politics, warning that neglecting farmers and Dalits could have long-term consequences for the party’s credibility in Karnataka.
