BENGALURU
Former MP DK Suresh said there is no need to give too much importance to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s remark that “politics is not permanent.” Speaking to reporters outside his Sadashivanagar residence, he said the CM’s words were spoken casually in conversation and did not need any further analysis.
When asked about AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal’s visit to Karnataka, Suresh said Venugopal was in the State only because he had a programme in Mangaluru. He added that Venugopal would return to Kerala soon due to the local body elections there.
Commenting on reports that supporters in Mangaluru shouted “D.K., D.K.” during Venugopal’s visit, Suresh said some people raised slogans out of pride, but it did not create any pressure on anyone.
Several ministers also reacted to the CM’s statement that politics is not permanent. Home Minister G. Parameshwar, Industries Minister M.B. Patil and PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi all agreed there was nothing unusual about the comment. Suresh said the breakfast meeting between the CM and Deputy CM should be asked about directly, as he did not know what was discussed. He added that the winter session has begun and important issues must be taken up, with the government working to gain the opposition’s confidence.
Industries Minister M.B. Patil said the meeting between the CM and DCM had cleared confusion and stressed that unity remains strong in the party. He said the high command will take decisions whenever required. Responding to questions about the CM’s remark, he said nothing was wrong, adding, “Man is not permanent.”
PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi also said the CM was right. “Power is not permanent for anyone. Even if someone is CM ten times, they must step down one day,” he said, noting that the high command will decide all matters.
