FIR filed after actress cousin’s tragic death

Bengaluru

The investigation into the heartbreaking death of Achala, cousin of actress Ashika Ranganath, has intensified as Puttenahalli police officially registered an FIR against the accused, Mayank Gowda.

Achala died by suicide on November 21 within the Puttenahalli police limits, and the case has since drawn public attention due to the serious allegations made by her family.

According to the complaint filed by her father, Harsha, Mayank Gowda had allegedly pretended to be in love with Achala and frequently met her. Harsha stated that Mayank repeatedly pressured his daughter into a physical relationship. When she refused, he allegedly assaulted her and threatened to kill her, creating immense fear and emotional distress. Harsha believes this harassment pushed his daughter towards the extreme step.

Following the complaint, the Puttenahalli police registered an FIR under BNS Sections 108 and 352, covering abetment of suicide and sexual harassment. The police team has now stepped up the investigation, examining every angle to understand the events leading up to Achala’s death.

During the early stages of the probe, officers said they had not found a suicide note or immediate evidence supporting the allegations made by Achala’s parents. To gather clearer insights, Achala’s mobile phone has been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). Investigators expect the retrieved chats, call-detail records, and other digital traces to play a crucial role in confirming the nature of Achala’s relationship with the accused.

Police officials said that if the FSL report provides evidence of threats, harassment, or coercion, they will take strict legal action against Mayank Gowda. The family continues to seek justice, hoping the investigation brings the full truth to light.
