Union Min Pralhad Joshi criticizes CM, DCM power struggle

Joshi accused the state government of ignoring farmers, failing to implement central support schemes amid internal conflicts

HUBBALLI

Union Food and Civil Supplies Minister Pralhad Joshi has criticized the state Congress leadership, saying that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar are engaged in a power struggle while claiming to support unity.

Speaking to the media in Hubballi, Joshi commented on the ongoing fight for the CM’s chair, saying that the party high command ultimately decides power sharing. “On the surface, they talk about unity, but behind the scenes, the fight continues,” he said, adding a sarcastic remark about breakfast to underline the drama.

He noted that both leaders have met with AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, yet nothing substantial has emerged from these discussions. “CM and DCM are chanting unity slogans and even taking extreme steps to win MLA support. But the battle for the CM seat is serious, and the state’s interests are being ignored,” Joshi said sharply.

Joshi also accused the state government of neglecting farmers. He pointed out that the central government has provided support for sugarcane and maize farmers, including permissions for ethanol production and minimum support prices. “It is the state government’s responsibility to implement these schemes properly. Yet, their internal conflicts are taking priority over farmers’ welfare,” he added.

Highlighting central initiatives, Joshi praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat program. “Through Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister shares new ideas, projects, and inspiration with the youth. It motivates everyone to contribute positively to society,” he said.

He further mentioned that the central government has allocated Rs 100 crore to startups under the Department of Renewable Energy, supporting innovation and entrepreneurship. “This is a matter of pride and shows how proactive governance can benefit citizens,” Joshi remarked.

The minister’s comments underline growing concerns about political infighting affecting governance and the urgent need for leaders to focus on state development and citizen welfare rather than personal power struggles.
