CALL FOR STRONGER ROAD SAFETY
MYSURU
Authorities in Mysuru have renewed their call for stronger road safety after two accident victims were sent to the Bhopal district hospital for post-mortem tests. Officials said the results will help confirm the exact cause of death. They urged drivers to be more careful on rural highways, especially at night, as accidents continue to rise in many parts of the region.
During a review meeting at the Mysuru South Regional Transport Department, officials shared several major updates aimed at improving transport services and strengthening public safety. One of the key developments is the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation’s proposal to introduce 100 electric buses in Mysuru district. Preparations for servicing these buses have already started at the Bannimantap depot.
Another major step is the proposal to build a new bus stand in Tagadur. Work on the Mysuru New Rural Bus Stand, which is being built at a cost of ₹120 crore, is also progressing steadily. These projects are expected to improve transport facilities and make rural travel easier for passengers in the coming years.
From April to October 2025, the Regional Transport Department collected ₹648 crore in revenue. Recent inspections resulted in fines worth ₹15.17 crore, showing stronger efforts to curb violations and unsafe driving practices. Officials also stressed the importance of cleanliness at bus stands and directed KSRTC staff to regularly check toilet facilities to ensure better service for passengers.
Authorities warned officers to stay alert against middlemen and unregistered driving schools that try to influence processes at transport offices. They said such behaviour must be stopped and reminded staff to work with full honesty and transparency.
