Dalmia cement faces ₹266-crore GST heat

MUMBAI
Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited, a subsidiary of Dalmia Bharat, has received two GST show-cause notices from the Tamil Nadu Sales Tax Office, demanding a total of ₹266.3 crore. The notices, issued under Section 74 of the Central and Tamil Nadu GST Act, relate to assessment years 2019–20 and 2022–23.

In its filing, the company said the Sales Tax Officer in Lalgudi, Tiruchirapalli, raised these demands after finding differences in taxable turnover and input tax credit claims. For 2019–20, officials have sought ₹128.39 crore in tax and ₹19.25 crore as penalty. For 2022–23, they have demanded ₹59.32 crore in tax along with an equal penalty. Dalmia Cement received both orders on the evening of November 28.

The company has stated that these notices will not have any financial impact on its operations, though it did not share details on its plan to contest or resolve the matter. Dalmia Cement added that it expects no monetary burden from the proceedings.

Dalmia Bharat, founded in 1939, is India’s fourth-largest cement maker with an annual capacity of 49.5 million tonnes. Headquartered in New Delhi, the group runs 15 plants across 10 states and remains a key player in the construction and infrastructure sectors.
