PM Modi urges citizens to fulfil Constitutional duties for a Viksit Bharat

On Constitution Day, PM Modi urged citizens to uphold constitutional duties, vote responsibly, and contribute actively to building a Viksit Bharat.

NEW DELHI

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a letter marking Constitution Day on Wednesday, urged citizens to actively fulfil their constitutional duties and contribute to building a Viksit Bharat. Emphasising that rights and duties go hand in hand, he said the nation’s progress depends on how responsibly citizens uphold the values embedded in the Constitution.

“It is our responsibility to fulfil the dreams envisioned by the framers of our Constitution. When we work with this sense of duty, our nation’s social and economic progress will multiply manifold,” Modi wrote. While acknowledging that the Constitution guarantees fundamental rights, he reminded citizens that it also entrusts them with essential duties. “These duties form the foundation of a strong democracy,” he added, urging every individual to act in ways that strengthen national interests.

The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of voting as a core democratic responsibility. Encouraging greater participation in elections, he proposed that educational institutions celebrate Constitution Day by honouring first-time voters turning 18, instilling in youth a deeper sense of civic responsibility. “Our Constitution has given us the right to vote. As citizens, it is our duty to never miss the opportunity to vote in national, state and local elections,” he wrote.

Modi also reflected on how the Constitution has enabled people from modest backgrounds, including himself, to aspire and achieve, calling it a document that offers “the power to dream and the strength to work towards it.”

Paying tribute to the members of the Constituent Assembly, he invoked Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals, noting that the spirit of duty is essential for democracy as well as for social and economic advancement.

In a separate post on X, Modi reiterated that human dignity, equality and liberty lie at the heart of the Constitution, and that fulfilling one’s duties is crucial to sustaining these values.
